What is this?
This is a project built for the Lepton hackathon, showing how the x402 protocol can be used to collect USDC nanopayments as postage before a PDF is delivered to a server.
Think of it like paying for the printer paper used, except the payment settles on-chain.
I use this server to print to my home printer! Adding a nostalgic appeal to sending messages while not throwing my money in the drain (if this weren't a testnet, lol).
What happens to my PDF?
Once you pay the postage and your PDF arrives, it travels through the server's sidecar system.
The host can wire up sidecars to do anything with it — save the file locally, push it to a webhook, send it straight to their home printer, or trigger any other workflow they configure.
On ethical concerns:
I understand the hatred towards supporting the idea of cryptocurrency, but I feel there is a lot of misconception, echo-chambering, and several bad actors (scams) that muddy the waters.
For one issue, environmental impact, that is mainly from something called Proof of Work.
The Arc testnet does not run on this and uses Proof of Stake which is not even something to be compared with the energy usage of PoW.
Everyone's welcome to their own perspective on this; feel free to email the server host with any concerns.
